TetraGrid is a modular assembly that is both a performative sculptural piece, and an intervention for spatial division. It was originaly designed and shortlisted as a competition proposal for a public arts grant to be installed in the entry atrium of a state liquor store. The molecular structure and bonding properties of ethanol were deconstructed, analyzed, and graphed; serving as a percedent for the spatial grid organization. TetraGrid consists of three rotationally molded resin base units: one tetrahedral arm module and two interchangeable connection nodes. Prototypes of the three units were 3D printed at full scale to check connection functionality and investigate mold-making methods. The combination of these parts form a soft system that is both scalable and rearrangeable in hanging or sitting configurations.
